Melamine (1, 3, 5-triamino-2, 4, 6-triazine) formaldehyde (MF) is one of the hardest and stiffest thermosetting polymers, which provides good properties and performancesuch as transparency, better hardness, thermal stability, excellent boil resistance, scratch resistance, abrasion resistance, flame retardant, moisture resistance and surface smoothness, which lead MF to large industrial applications.
Melamine resin is often used to saturate decorative paper that is laminated under heat and pressure and then pasted onto particle board.the resulting panel, often called melamine, is commonly used in ready-to-assemble furniture and kitchen cabinets.
MF resins are compatible with uf resin and, therefore, are often co-reacted with them to reduce formaldehyde emissions from particleboards and to prevent degradation of glue bonds caused by hydrolytic degradation of the UF polymers. The resin blend is called melamine–urea–formaldehyde (MUF).
